Reiki is an ancient form of hands-on energy healing that comes to us from Japan. As practiced today, it’s based on ancient, sacred techniques re-discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1900’s. It is a spiritual healing art and the word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (rei) which means “Universal life” and (ki) which means “Energy.”
It is believed that a persons Ki (or energy) should be strong and free flowing. In such a state, a person’s mind and body is in a positive state of health.
Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. It is a subtle and effective form of energy work, based on the Chakra system, using spiritually guided life force energy. It is hands-on-body healing in which a practitioner places hands lightly on or over a client’s body to facilitate his (or) her process of healing. The practitioner has gone through formal training with a Reiki Master and has received an “attunement,” which gives the ability to give Reiki treatments.
Reiki is often practiced on a massage table and the client is usually fully clothed.
What are Chakras?
Chakras means “wheel” in Sanskirt.
The body has energy centers that look like spinning wheels and are called Chakras. They allow energy to flow from one part of the body to another.
Chakras are connected to sound, light, and color. Each chakra center is associated with a certain part of the body and a certain organ, which it provides energy to function. Additionally, just as every organ in the human body has its equivalent on the mental and spiritual level, so too every chakra corresponds to a specific aspect of human behavior and development.
To heal is to bring the chakras into alignment and balance, connecting the mind, body and soul. Balanced chakras can promote physical and emotional well-being and can help to align a person to their highest joy and truest life’s purpose.
