Myofascial release is a form of manual therapy that is often incorporated into massage sessions. This technique focuses on pain and restriction believed to arise from myofascial tissues – the connective tissue that wrap, connect, and support muscles. During this therapy, the therapist locates myofascial areas that feel stiff and fixed instead of elastic and movable under light manual pressure. A client can expect to feels a “light hold” for two minutes or more over a particular area of concern. The therapist uses subtle tension between her hands to stretch the facial layer with intention of eliminating pain and restriction.
