Hot stones are used as an “add on” to a Swedish massage. Hot stones are comprised of basalt, a type of volcanic rock that contains special qualities that retain heat. The therapist applies stones to the neck and shoulders, combining heat, pressure, and the natural healing qualities of the stones. These therapeutic approaches trigger a series of relaxation responses in the body. The healing effects combined with the appropriate massage strokes help to also relieve specific tired, congested muscles of pain and stress.
